KOKRAJHAR: For the second-phase elections slated on April 10, the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) has declared the names of two party candidates who will contest from Udalguri district.
Addressing the media at its party office here on Monday, UPPL working president Rwngwra Narzary announced the names of Gabinda Chandra Basumatary for 69-Udalguri (ST) Constituency and Ratendra Daimary for 70- Mazbat Constituency.
Stating that the UPPL is emerging as a strong regional party, Narzary claimed that it will capture all seats in the BTR (Bodoland Territorial Region). He added that the combined team of BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), UPPL and GSP (Gana Suraksha Party) will have a landslide victory in the region to set up a people's government and bring about development in the BTR.
Meanwhile talking to reporters during a programme to celebrate the International Women's Day here during the day, UPPL president Pramod Boro claimed, "The UPPL will come out victorious across BTR. Our alliance will defeat the 'Mahajoot' led by the Congress. The BPF (Bodoland People's Front) will not win even a single seat because of their massive irregularities and wrong doings."
On the reported resentment brewing among a section of UPPL leaders and workers in Udalguri district over the seat-sharing plan with the BJP, Boro said that he had already talked with the party leaders and workers to work together.
Replying to a question as to why only eight seats were left for the UPPL in BTR, Boro said, "Our joint efforts will confirm the victory of the alliance candidates in all the seats. This is necessary to ensure swift implementation of BTR Accord in its letter and spirit and to also ensure equal rights for all.
