STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI:
Curfew in Urban Assam: From Sunday in all urban and adjacent areas falling within a radius of 5 km from municipal corporations, municipality boards and revenue towns all shops and other commercial establishments will remain closed from 11 am, and the curfew (ban on individual movement), barring essential services, will be clamped from '12 noon'.
In rural areas, the earlier order of closure of shops and businessmen establishments from 2 pm and the ban on individual movement from 6 pm to 5 am will continue.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) brought these changes in its earlier order meant for urban areas where new COVID-19 positive cases are on the rise.
The odd-even number rule will have to be followed in the movement of cars and other vehicles before the curfew period.
Taking the steep rise in the numbers of COVID-19 positive cases in Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday that if the situation in the three districts doesn't improve in the coming seven days harsher measures will have to be imposed.
