DIBRUGARH: "Divisiveness is not the aim of education, it teaches us to become cultured," said Manjira Choudhury, president of the UK chapter of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX).
Participating as the resource person at an international webinar organized by the 'Dr Birendra Kumar Bhattacharyya Memorial Trust, Guwahati', HS Kanoi College, Dibrugarh and Dibrugarh Xahitya Xabha recently on the topic 'Present Education System and our New Generation', Choudhury said, "We should never forget our culture and our language no matter where we live. We should never lose our identity as an Assamese or as an Indian even if we study or live in a foreign country. We will lose our identity once we forget our language and culture."
While talking about the Education sector, she said that the education system in the UK was very clean. Their education system does not teach the students to become doctors or engineers. The aim of their education system is to gain knowledge only. "Memorization should not be a part of our education system, our students must be able to gain knowledge by in-depth study of the subject area; and then only the real aim of education will be fulfilled," she said.
Inaugurating the international webinar, Former AXX president Dr Nagen Saikia in his inaugural speech, thanked the organizers for organizing the webinar in the memory of such a great litterateur; and said that this webinar has given an opportunity to recall the legendary person. Dr. Saikia said, "Our present education system has changed drastically with science and technology providing a new dimension to the present education system."
Prof. Anupam Saikia from IIT Guwahati and Juri Bhattacharyya, member of the 'Dr Birendra Kumar Bhattacharyya Trust, Guwahati', also delivered a very fruitful talk on the present education system. Earlier, Kanoi College Principal Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia delivered the welcome speech.
Earlier on the occasion, secretary in-charge of Dibrugarh Xahitya Xabha, Ratul Buragohain introduced resource person Manjira Choudhury.
