Will appoint 20,000 school teachers by May: Education Minister Ranoj Pegu

The State’s Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Thursday announced that the Education Department will appoint 20,000 teachers by May as part of the State Government’s ‘Mission One Lakh Jobs’.

GUWAHATI: The State's Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Thursday announced that the Education Department will appoint 20,000 teachers by May as part of the State Government's 'Mission One Lakh Jobs'.

Talking to the media here, Pegu said that the new appointments will help fill up vacant various posts of lower primary, upper primary, secondary, post-graduate teachers, assistant teachers etc. Advertisements have been already published for some of these posts and merit-based selection will follow soon, he said.

On implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Education Minister said that the process has already started in the State delinking of Classes XI and XII from colleges will commence in the 2022-2023 fiscal year. Colleges will deal only with graduation and postgraduation courses, he said.

Pegu said that a committee has been constituted comprising members from the Social Welfare, Education, Health & Family Welfare and Tribal Affairs departments to ensure that issues related to health, nutrition and social well-being are also addressed along with normal education at the pre-primary level.
