GUWAHATI: State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has clarified that all the students who have secured first division marks in the Higher Secondary (HS) final examination, 2022 will not get a Scooty from the government. Instead, the government will fix a cut-off mark for giving the two-wheelers, which will be notified later.
Talking to the media today after the announcement of the HS final examination results, Pegu said that this decision had been taken in order to stay within the budget allocated for the purpose. The Education Minister also informed that the government would consider how the 'Anundoram Barooah Award' of laptops or cash for HSLC students could be awarded this year.
"The result this year was the best in a decade. This year the pass percentage was the highest and this is only due to the screening conducted in Class X," Pegu said.
The minister, however, urged the students to take up either Science or Commerce stream as that would make it easier for them to secure jobs. Pegu said that the number of students was less in the Commerce and Science streams, but most of them passed in the first and second divisions. He further informed that there were 1.12 lakh seats in the Science stream in the State.
"The process of filling up the vacancies of PG teachers is going on and IIT professors will train the Science teachers," he added.
