Efforts on to free 4,000 bigha land near Gorukhuti

GUWAHATI: The State Government will free encroached government lands, including the around 4,000 bighas of land still under encroachment near Gorukhuti, in phases. The government is reaching an understanding with the encroachers near Gorukhuti to free the land without carrying out an eviction drive.
The Gorukhuti Project is at Dholpur under Sipajhar LAC in the Darrang district.
Talking to The Sentinel, Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) Minister Jogen Mohan said, "The Gorukhuti Project is underway with agricultural and dairy activities. I visited the project with senior revenue officers yesterday. The project has 4,500 bighas of land under it.
"Around 4,000 bighas of land is still under encroachment near Gorukhuti. We have already served notices to the encroachers to vacate the land willingly. We are discussing the matter with the encroachers at the official level. The eligible people among the encroachers will get rehabilitation at Dolgaon.
"Gorukhuti is one of the Chief Minister's dream projects for agricultural and dairy activities. It aims at generating employment avenues. The department wants to allot Government land to the Gorukhuti Project after making them free from encroachers. We will erect posts demarcating the project area.
"There are encroachments of government lands in other areas in the state as well. I request them to free such lands willingly. If not, the government is bound to carry out eviction drives."
