GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the BJP would make Assam a State as imagined by Srimanta Sankardev, Srimanta Madhavdev, Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi and Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

Addressing the media at Sualkuchi under Jalukbari constituency on Sunday, Shah said the BJP-led government under the leadership of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Cabinet Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has taken Assam on the path of development in the last five years. He said the BJP government has made Assam free from agitation and terror and also made the State development oriented. "With these achievements and work we have approached the people to seek the mandate," he said.

"Let Assam becomes free from terror, agitation, violence forever. Let Assam becomes the State that Srimanta Sankardev, Srimanta Madhavdev, Dr Bhupen Hazarika and Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi imagined. The BJP is committed to make such Assam a reality," Shah said.

Shah who arrived in Sualkuchi to campaign for Himanta Biswa Sarma in Jalukbari constituency, said Sarma has significant contribution in development of Assam. He said the way Assam under the leadership of Health Minister Sarma led the battle against Covid-19 is remarkable.

According to Shah, Sarma being the chairman of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) has been able to consolidate BJP's position in other NE States. "Sarma has also contributed for development for NE. There is a need of leaders like Sonowal and Sarma for Assam and NE region. Both of them will take Assam forward in the path of development. If Assam marches ahead the NE will go forward. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given top most priority to development of Assam and NE," the Home Minister said. He said the BJP under the leadership of the PM Modi has promised to make Assam free from floods in the next five years.

Shah appealed to voters of Jalukbari to ensure victory of Sarma by huge margin and strengthen the hands of PM Narendra Modi.

Targeting the Congress Shah said the opposition party has now joined hands with Badruddin Ajmal. "I want to ask the people of the State whether Ajmal could be an identity of Assam. The Congress has been derailed from its goal and path," he said.

Even though Shah addressed an election rally in Barpeta Road under Sarbhog constituency, he had to cut short his visit and rushed to New Delhi following gruesome attack on security personnel by Maoist in Chattishgarh. Shah could not attend the rallies in Sualkuchi and Bhabanipur.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP national general secretary Dilip Saikia, UPPL president Pramod Boro, AGP president Atul Bora, AGP working president Keshab Mahanta and many other leaders, however, attended the massive Sualkuchi rally. Sunday was the last day of campaigning for the third and final phase of Assembly elections scheduled to be held on April 6.
