Assam: Woman Drug Peddler Arrested with Heroin worth Rs 5 Cr in Karbi Anglong District

BOKAJAN: In continuation with the series of intermittent drug seizures, Karbi Anglong police, in another successful operation, seized 723 grams of heroin valued at approximately Rs 5 crore from a passenger bus over NH-39 in East Karbi Anglong district on Tuesday.

As reported, based on a specific information regarding the movement of drugs along the highway, the Barpathar police intercepted a passenger bus bearing registration number AS 19AC 0074 and on thoroughly checking the vehicle, the police team recovered a total of 64 soap boxes containing 723 grams of suspected heroin from the possession of a female passenger identified as Rimpa Hazarika of Kachari Gaon under Khatkhati police station in Karbi Anglong district.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the seized consignment was brought from Dimapur and was supposed to be delivered in Guwahati. The approximate value of the seized consignment is over Rs 5 crore in the black market," a police officer said.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of John Das, SDPO Bokajan, and was assisted by SI (UB) Dhurba Jyoti Bora, OC Barpathar PS, SI (UB) Charan Mohan Chetia of Khatkhati PS, ASI Bhadra Kanta Borah and APRG staff.
