GUWAHATI: Education Minister Ranuj Pegu said that from 2023 or 2024, SEBA (Board of Secondary Education, Assam) and AHSEC (Assam Higher Secondary Education Council) would not publicly declare the results of HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) and HS examinations. He said that only the students concerned would get the results on their mobile phones, and they also would have access to the websites of the SEBA and the AHSEC, as the case might be.

The minister further said that SEBA and AHSEC would make public only the statistics of the examinations, besides the toppers' names. "The score of a student in any examination is a matter which others should not have access to. The SEBA and the ASHEC have already digitalized the resulting system. However, to make the results a personal matter for the students concerned, we need to extend the digital system. And we will do that," he said.

On the poor performance of a section of schools, the Pegu said, "What we are taking are remedial measures, not punitive. We are studying the entire issue. The remedial measures will have some tough decisions and exercises that we will not compromise at any cost. If anybody (school authority) takes our remedial measures as punitive ones, it is up to them. If need be, we will go for amalgamation of schools that may lead to the closure of a few."

He further said, "We are collecting the names of teachers working as LIC agents, reporters, doing contracts and involved in active politics to act against them."

He said that from now the SEBA would conduct the class IX examination.

The minister said this at the launching of an AHSEC portal rendering 12 different services. The 12 services are (i) correction of registration certificates, (ii) issuance of duplicate registration certificates, (iii) issuance of migration certificates, (iv) issuance of duplicate migration certificates, and (v) permission for admission in HS first year for candidates with gaps in the academic year, (vi) transfer of HS final year students, (vii) correction of admit cards, (viii) correction of pass certificates, (ix) correction of mark sheets, (x) issuance of duplicate admit cards, (xi) issuance of duplicate pass certificates, and (xii) issuance of duplicate mark sheets.
