AASU Protest Against Assam Accord Clause VI Implementation: One year has elapsed after submission of the report of the high-level committee on Clause-VI of the Assam Accord. However, the government hasn't done anything tangible on it. Irked at this glaring apathy the AASU (All Assam Students' Union) has spat fire on the government.

The high-level committee headed by Justice (retd) B.K. Sarma submitted its report on Clause -VI of the Assam Accord to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on February 25, 2020 in the presence his Council of Ministers. However, even after a year, neither the Centre nor the State government has done anything tangible on the implementation of the recommendations of the high-level committee.

A statement on this matter issued to the media on Wednesday by AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath and general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, "The high-level committee prepared the report by taking all aspects into consideration so as to ensure Constitutional safeguards to the indigenous people of the State. However, the Centre has said that it would implement the report in letter and spirit. This is the worst betrayal to the people of Assam by the Centre and the State government.

"The Chief Minister even failed to send the report to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The people of the State won't forgive these two governments for their betrayal to them. We want the government to implement the report of the high-level committee in its letter and spirit. If the government doesn't implement the report, we're not going to sit idle. Our agitations will continue."
