Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the young generation will be the pioneers of the cultural renaissance. He urged the new generation to carry forward the age-old traditions and culture into the future.

On Wednesday, the CM addressed the gathering at the Karbi Youth Festival at Taralangsu, Diphu, saying, “The Karbi Youth Festival is one of the oldest tribal festivals in the northeast region. With a 5-year-long margin of youth power, the festival has been representing the unique culture of Karbis and also contributing to its promotion and expansion.”

Delighted to witness the Chaki and colourful culture of the Karbis at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Karbi Youth Festival, the CM said, “The folk culture of the Karbis is very rich, and we have to take this culture to the world through the Karbi Youth Festival. The government will contribute an amount of Rs 3 crore annually to successfully organize the Karbi Youth Festival. The festival, which started in 1974, is surviving due to the contributions made by the Karbi society and the participation of the people.”

He expressed his regret before the assembled people about the inability of the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, to attend the festival, which they had been eagerly looking forward to. He said, “We will ensure that the President will attend the next edition of the festival.”
