On January 26, 1930, Purna Swaraj Day was first celebrated. On this day the nation agreed to press for full independence from the British. On 26th of January 1950, India celebrated its first Republic Day
President Sukarno, the first Head of State of Indonesia was the Chief Guest for India’s first Republic Day.
On 26th Jan 1965, Hindi was declared as the official language of India. This year it will be marked India’s 72th Republic Day.
On Republic Day, the PM of India honours the martyrs by putting a ringlet at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate.
Followed by a 21-gun salute, national flag hoisting and national anthem, the Paramvir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, and Vir Chakra awards are awarded to the brave soldiers
The parade comes to an end when the IAF fighter jets flypast Rajpath. The National Flag is lowered at precisely 6 pm, the National Anthem is played, marking a formal end to the Republic Day celebrations.
