The Current Flood Situation In Assam

Assam is still struggling with severe floods as many major rivers have overflowed their banks. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects more rain in the coming days, which could cause even more flooding. The following rivers are flowing above the danger level, according to the water level that was seen this morning (09.07.2024; 9:00 AM) on the CWC (Central Water Commission) website:
Brahmaputra at Nimatighat (Jorhat), Tezpur (Sonitpur), Guwahati (Kamrup), Dhubri (Dhubri); Burhidihing at Chenimari (Dibrugarh); Dikhou at Sivasagar; Disang at Nanglamuraghat (Sivasagar); Kopili at Dharamtul (Nagaon); Kushiyara at Karimganj.
IMD reports an average rainfall of 6.3 mm as on July 8, 2024.
The Regional Met Centre (IMD) in Borjhar has issued a Thunderstorm Watch, with lightning and heavy rain very possible in isolated spots over Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri, Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia.
The following 27 districts have been affected by flood: Barpeta (4), Biswanath (2), Bongaigaon (2), Cachar (3), Charaideo (2), Chirang (1), Darrang (4), Dhemaji (4), Dhubri (8), Dibrugarh (6), Goalpara (5), Golaghat (3), Hailakandi (3), Jorhat (3), Kamrup (8), Kamrup M (2), Karimganj (3), Kokrajhar (2), Lakhimpur (5), Majuli (2), Morigaon (4), Nagaon (6), Nalbari (1), Sivasagar (3), Sonitpur (2), South Salmara (2), and Tinsukia (1). Furthermore, two districts, viz., Karbi Anglong, and Dibrugarh, have also reported Urban flood.
Additionally, 91 revenue circles, 3,154 villages, and 18,80,783 people have been affected by flood so far. Altogether 48,124 camp inmates were taking shelter in 245 relief camps set up by the government.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has been deployed in Cachar, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat. SDRF, Fire and ES personnel, Police forces, and AAPDA Mitra Volunteers from ASDMA have been assisting the district government in flood and storm impacted areas.
