Silchar: Adding a green touch to voting and in order to propagate messages related to conservation of the environment, this time the Assam State Election Commission has set up green or eco-friendly polling booths in Cachar district.

As per reports, first-time voters, senior citizens and PWD voters were welcomed with saplings on polling day in the district.

Adhering to green protocol, model polling booths in the district were decorated with non-polluting materials which also conveys a message about saving the environment.

In order to sensitise the public on the significance of adopting the green protocol, Self Help Groups weaved traditional 'Sheetal Pati mats' for the entrance gate of the booths.

These polling booths showcase the cultural legacy of the district through the display of handicrafts and handlooms.

The Commission has set up 117 model polling stations.

Under the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic, as many as 73.44 lakh voters have geared up to cast their ballots in 39 constituencies across 13 districts of Assam.
