Early life:

Basanta Das was born on 28th February, 1971 to Banaeswar Das and Rina Das, in Mangoldoi, Assam. He got married in the year 2008 to Heera Moni Choudhury Das.

Education:

He completed B.A. from Darrang College, Gauhati University, 1992.

Career and Politics:

He is a member of the Indian National Congress and an Ex-MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) from 2001 to 2006. He held the position of Chairman of A.F.D.C, and member of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. In the 2011 Assam Assembly elections, he got elected as a member of the 13th Assam Legislative Assembly from Mangaldoi Constituency. He was the Minister of State Department of Fisheries, Printing, Stationery and Information and Public Relations in the TarunGogoi government. He is going to contest the 2021 Assam Assembly Election from Mangaldoi Constituency against Gurujyoti Das of BJP.
