Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha is the sitting MLA of Karimganj North. He has been active in the world of politics since his student days. He held several positions as student leader. He was General Secretary, Karimganj NSUI in the year 1997-98, Vice President Karimganj NSUI in the year 1999-2000, General Secretary (District) NSUI, Town Committee in the year 2000, General Secretary (State) NSUI in 2002-2003. He was the President of Simanta Jubo Parishad, Karimganj and Vice President, Karimganj Agriculture Marketing Board.
