Patharkandi is a township located in Karimganj district in the Indian state of Assam. It is 350 kilometres south of the state capital Guwahati and 32 kilometres south of the district headquarters Karimganj. Patharkandi is situated by the bank of the Longai River. Patharkandi is also an important police station and a name of an Assam Legislative Assembly constituency.

Patharkandi (constituency number 2) is one of the 5 constituencies located in Karimganj district. Patharkandi is part of Karimganj (Lok Sabha constituency) along with 7 other assembly segments, namely, Badarpur, Karimganj North, Karimganj South, Ratabari in Karimganj district, Hailakandi, Katlichera and Algapur in Hailakandi district. Patharkandi comes under the Karimganj District of the state Assam of India which is the administrative headquarters of the district. Karimganj is bounded on north by the district of Dima Hasao, on the west by Bangladesh and Tripura, on the east Hailakandi district and on the south by Tripura and Mizoram. Karimganj is situated between longitude 91°15' and 93°15' east latitude 24°8' and 25°8' north and covers an area of 1809 kms. out of the state total areas of 78438 kms. In term of geographical area, the rank of the district is 21 compared to other districts of Assam.

The Assam Assembly polls will be held to elect a total of 126 Members of the Assam Legislative Assembly (MLAs).

The Number 2 Patharkandi constituency located in Karimganj has 142,923 electorates (as of 2011) and falls under the Karimganj Lok Sabha Constituency in Assam. Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched two road projects that are soon going to start in Patharkandi, Karimganj district. The minister along with several officials from the PWD department inspected the site. The newly launched road projects are Kanhai Bazar which is worth Rs 22 crore and the other Asimganj- Anipur road project costing around Rs 10 crore. In his visit to the site, Sarma also interacted with the local people. Also, laid foundation stone for construction of road from Chandkhira Kukitol NEC Road to Basantinagar via Koilaghat under BADP(SCA)- Rs 134.00 Lac.
