Boko is a town and Assembly Constituency located in Kamrup district. The official language of the town is Assamese. There are multiple schools and colleges in the town.

ASSEMBLY CONSTITUENCY NAME AND NUMBER

Boko Assembly Constituency is one out of 126 Assembly Constituencies and it bears number 48. It is a part of the Gauhati Lok Sabha Constituency.

PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCY

Boko falls under Gauhati Parliamentary Constituency. Queen Oja of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the Lok Sabha Election 2019 by securing 1008936 total votes and Bobbeeta Sarma of the Indian National Congress party became the runner up by securing 663330 votes. 

DISTRICT

The district Kamrup is an administrative district. It covers an area of 4345 square km. Amingaon is the district headquarter of Kamrup. As per the report of the 2011 census, the district has a total of 1517542 population.

In Assembly Election 2016, the Boko Constituency had a total of 197963 voters and among them the valid voter was 176341. In the election, Nandita Das of the INC party won the election by securing 69986 votes and defeated Jyoti Prasad Das of Asom Gana Parishad, who got 52392 votes.

According to the census of 2011, the total population in Boko is 111880 from which the number of males is 56415 and the number of females is 55465. The literate people living in Boko is 74305 from which, 39970 are males and 34335 are females. And the illiterate people is residing in Boko is 37575 from which, 16445 are males and 21130 are females.

  • In the 1996 election, Jyoti Prasad Das of the Asom Gana Parishad party won the MLA seat by securing 49263 votes and defeated the Independent candidate named Jitendra Thakuria who got 220 votes.
  • In 2001, Gopi Nath Das of the Indian National Congress party emerged as the winner with 56177 votes. Jyoti Prasad Das of the Asom Gana Parishad was the runner up with 32798 votes.
  • In the 2006 election, Jyoti Prasad Das of the Asom Gana Parishad became the winner by securing 61578 votes and defeated Gopi Nath Das of the Indian National Congress party who got 52437 votes.
  • In 2011, Gopi Nath Das of All India, United Democratic Front won the election by securing 54388 votes and defeated Jayanta Das of Indian National Congress party who got 43697 votes.
  • In 2016, Nandita Das of the Indian, National Congress party won the election with 69986 votes and defeated Jyoti Prasad Das of the Asom Gana Parishad who got 52392 votes.
