Hajo is a town and a Development Block under the Kamrup district. It is a pilgrimage religion centre for Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam. The town is located on the verge of the Brahmaputra river. Hajo Circle under Kamrup region/district has around 262,531 peoples. As per the Census of 2011, there are about 133 inhabited villages under Hajo Block.

The Assembly/MLA Constituency name of Hajo is 'Hajo Assembly Constituency' and it is one of the 126 assembly constituencies of Assam. Its constituency no. is 55 and it forms a structure of Gauhati Parliamentary Constituency.

Hajo Assembly Constituency is a structure of the Gauhati ParliamentaryConstituency. Hajo is the 10 assembly segments of the Gauhati Parliament Seat. It is reserved for the General category. The current MP of the Constituency is Bobbeeta Sharma.

District :

Hajo is a town under Kamrup district/region, Assam, India. Kamrup (Rural) district is an administrative/authoritative district of Assam. Its headquarters is at Amingaon. The Kamrup (Rural) district was initiated in the year 2003. The region comprises of around 1,517,542 peoples. Therefore, he got departed from the Assembly/MLA seat by 8908 votes.

In prior to the 1996 Assam Assembly/MLA Elections, a candidate Nurul Hussain of AGP had won the Assembly/MLA seat with 45306 votes.
In the Assembly/MLA Election of 2001, a candidate Dr Haren Das of INC won the Assembly/ MLA election with 40726 votes.
In the Assembly/MLA Election of 2006, a candidate of 1996 Assembly/MLA Election named, Nurul Hussain of AGP once again won Assembly/MLA seat against Dr Haren Das of INC with 38917 votes.
In the 2011 Assembly/MLA Elections of Assam, a candidate Dwipen Pathak of AITC had won the Assembly/MLA seat with 33331 votes.
