The Government of Assam has granted permission to open shops in a specified timeframe from tomorrow, Monday, May 4. Announcing this and issuing guidelines State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press meet said that all standalone shops can be reopened from tomorrow between morning to 5 pm every day during the lockdown period and for which no prior approval from the government authority is required. However, in marketplaces, only 1/3rd shops in a day could be opened, he added. "In marketplaces, the respective market committee would decide which shop could be granted permission to open in a day. If the respective market committee could not decide that, then the Deputy Commissioner of the district where the market falls would take the decision in the regard. We have already given instruction with regard to this," the Minister said, adding that all pharmacies could be opened from tomorrow. He further said that all book shops could be opened from morning to 5 pm every day. "From 6 pm to 6 am curfew would be imposed. We appeal to people to maintain", the Minister said.
