DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh University final year student Satyabrata Borgohain, who was picked up by the army for interrogation on certain issues, was handed over to Tingkhong police on Thursday evening.

The incident had brewed up considerable sensation in the district following a report that some armed group picked up Satyabrata Buragohain, son of Budheswar Gogoi, founder president of proscribed United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), from his parental residence at Kuwori Gaon under Tingkhong Police Station on Wednesday.

According to information, an armed group comprising 7 to 8 youths in civil dress raided the residence of Satyabrata at Kuwori gaon at about 8 pm and carried him away in a car. When the father Buddheswar Gogoi resisted the armed group's move to pick up his eldest son, they identified themselves as army personnel and said that for interrogation on certain matters, his son had been picked up and would be released once interrogation was over.

AASU unit of Dibrugarh University, in a statement issued to the press, has demanded reason for Satyabrata's arrest and appealed that the final year student of Management Studies should not be subjected to any mental and physical stress.
