BARPETA: The pioneer of Assamese folk culture, litterateur, writer, lyricist, journalist, associate of Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha and Sainik Silpi Brajanatha Sarma, and author of the book Barpeta Xatrar Itihaas, Gokul Pathak left for heavenly abode. His body was brought to Barpeta Press Club on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, Munindra Sarma, Superintendent of Police Dr.Robin Kumar, members of Barpeta Xahitya Xabha and Club Rising paid homage to Gokul Pathak. AASU advisor Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya paid tribute to the noted litterateur at the AASU, Barpeta office. Later, the body was taken to Barpeta municipality playground and there the administration gave him State honours. He was cremated near Sankar Madhab College and Bhaat Kuchi Than at Jail Road as per his last wish. BJP State president Ranjit Kr Das, MLA Gunindra Nath Das, Deputy Commissioner Munindra Sarma, SP Dr Robin Kumar and other dignitaries were present.

Gokul Pathak wrote more than 30 books. Born to a poor family in 1926 at Sapna village, Barnagar, Sarbhog in Barpeta district, Gokul Pathak resided at Jail Road, Barpeta later on. He was the associate of Hemanga Biswas and Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha. The ideology of socialism and communism attracted him to write. He got married to Deba Bala Pathak in 1950 and in 1954, his wife passed away. He raised his two children single-handedly. He also took part in the country's freedom struggle.
