HAFLONG: Assam minister for Agriculture and Veterinary, Atul Bora, on Monday, assured all possible support in horticulture and organic farming to N C Hills Autonomous Council for the betterment of the farmers of Dima Hasao.
Minister Bora was here to review the COVID-19 situation with the MLA B B Hagjer, NCHAC Chairperson, Ranu Langthasa, Executive Members in-charge of departments concerned, Ngamrothang Hmarand Paudaming Newme, principal secretary cum DC, Amitabh Rajkhowa and SP Bir Bikram Gogoi, officials of the departments concerned, farmers and the traders.
On the way to Haflong, Bora also visited few pineapple gardens along with departmental officials and appreciated the farmers for their involvement in horticulture. Talking to this correspondent, Minister said that the district of Dima Hasao has very fertile land and more than 75% of people were agriculturist and the products are also tasty and purely organic; therefore, a road for the overall improvement of the farmers as well as farming should be prepared. The district could be a very good supplier of various organic products to the entire State and also the neighboring States. "Pig farming is also a very good opportunity for farmers here as I was told that pork is very delicious here. I want to appeal to all the farmers and the upcoming youths of the district to take up farming in a scientific way and put efforts to cater to the entire State with their organic products." He also mentioned that ginger and turmeric are also being produced in abundance and this could be exported to other places to fetch a good income for the farmers.
