JAGUN: A tea garden worker engaged in Tipong Tea Estate identified as Gokul Kosari (55) was brutally murdered here at his Tipong based residence under Lekhapani Police Station on Sunday late evening. According to Kumari Kosari, the wife of the deceased, she was casually sitting with her husband at home when Raj Karki a resident of the same area rushed inside the house and attacked her husband with a lethal weapon. 'After the brutual act of murder, the culprit assaulted me physically, later raped me and escaped under the cover of darkness,' alleged the wife of the victim while addressing the media at Lekhapani Police Station. She suspected that a heated argument over some trifle issue during the day might be the bone of contentention and the culprit inhumanely avenged the act.
The accused was however arrested here on Sunday by a team of Lekhapani cops, led by Puranjay Borah, the Officer-in-Charge of the local police station. The arrest was made with the active assistance of the local residents of Tipong area. 'The accused has been booked under appropriate sections of the IPC immediately within 15 hours of commission of the crime', said the police official, adding 'the corpse has been sent to Tinsukia for postmortem'. The official also lauded the timely assistance of the local youths assuring the arrest of the accused who was preparing to leave the place bag and baggage.
