Prime Accused in Twin Train Murder-Rape Case sentenced to Life Imprisonment

Tinsukia: The session court in Tinsukia awarded life imprisonment to the prime accused in the sensational twin train murder-rape case.

The accused identified as Bikash Das was convicted for rape-murder and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Court of Justice Parthiv Jyoti Saikia today at Tinsukia Session Court.

On the other hand, the murder and rape charges against Das's accomplice Bipin Pandey was dropped due to lack of evidence.

It may be mentioned that a student of BSc 5th semester at the Assam Agriculture University was found murdered on board a train at Simaluguri railway station in Sivasagar district in July 2018. The half-naked body of the girl was recovered lying inside the train bogie.

Reports also claimed that she was raped before her murder on the moving train.

Shockingly. within the next 24 hours, another body of a 62-year-old woman was recovered from the toilet of the Avadh-Assam Express at Mariani Junction of Jorhat district.

Later, police held Das from Tinsukia Railway Station while his psychopath accomplice Bipin Pandey, who hails from Bihar and was a rickshaw puller, was arrested from Dibrugarh-Bangalore Express at Banipur Station in Dibrugarh.

Das was used to run a tea-stall near the Tinsukia Railway Station and was selling clothes in trains at the time of committing the crime.

It may further be mentioned that criminal Bikash Das used anesthetic powder laced in dried tobacco leaves to make the two victims, Radha Kumari and Lalima Devi, fall unconscious in two separate trains before killing them.
