Supreme Court: Aadhaar mandatory for PAN linking, not mandatory for opening of bank account, obtaining sim card

In latest updates, on Aadhaar verdict Supreme Court said that Aadhaar mandatory for PAN linking and not compulsory for UGC, NEET & CBSE exams & school admissions. It further said Aadhaar not needed for opening a bank account and no mobile company can demand Aadhaar data as well as private companies can't seek Aadhaar data.

Justice Chandrachud of Supreme Court said, "Aadhaar violates the right to privacy as it could possibly lead to profiling of persons and voters."

The Apex Court also said "Aadhaar not mandatory for obtaining a new SIM card."

The Apex court moreover said, "Aadhaar not mandatory for the opening of bank account."

Aadhaar card is mandatory for PAN linking, SC bench added.

The Court besides said that "the government needs to ensure that illegal migrants do not get Aadhaar card"

The Supreme Court made this declaration while announcing of the verdict by a five-judge Constitution bench led by Chief Justice Dipak Misra. A major part of the verdict is read out by Justice Sikri.

Earlier a five-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, reserved its verdict in the case on May 10 after a 38-day hearing.

Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number that can be acquired by residents of India, based on their biometric and demographic data.
