GUWAHATI: Protesting against the exclusion of Koch Rajbongshi and other indigenous people from the final NRC, the All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Sanmilani (AAKRS) has given a 12-hour Assam Bandh call on September 12.

Addressing the media here on Tuesday the AAKRS claimed that the names of many Koch Rajbongshi people residing in BTAD areas, have been intentionally excluded from the final NRC and it is a political conspiracy.

Bireswar Saikia, AAKRS president said, “It’s awful that many indigenous people including Koch Rajbongshi had to go through extreme misery as they were sent to the detention camp by Foreigners’ Tribunals. Despite being imprisoned in the detention camp, the names of many sons of the soil got excluded from the final NRC. So, we want to appeal the government to take necessary initiative. So that the repetition of the same doesn’t happen, as we’ve already came to know that the name of Koch Rajbongshi people’s residing in Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Dhemaji, Bongaigaon and Udalguri have been excluded from the final NRC. So to oppose the act of turning the indigenous people to foreigners and foreigners to native people, we are giving an Assam Bandh call on September 12.”
