Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced the dates for High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary (HS) exams for the academic year 2020-21.
He said that the class X exams will begin on May 11th, 2021 and the class XII exams will start from May 12th, 2021.
The results for both the exams will be declared within 7th July and 30th July respectively, the Minister tweeted.
Notably, the prescribed dates for the two exams come as quite a huge postponement as compared to the usual schedule. Every year, students in Assam appeared for their HSLC and HS exams around late January to early February. Lasting about a month, the exams usually conclude by March. However, the ongoing Covid pandemic has caused unprecedented changes in the exam schedule and pushed them as late as May in this year.
Last year, the HSLC (X) exams were conducted between February 10 and February 29 and were held in two shifts. The morning shift took place from 9 AM to 11 AM, while the afternoon shift took place from 1.30 PM to 3.30 PM.
Similarly, the HS (XII) exams in 2020 were conducted from February 12 to March 14 in two shifts: morning and noon. The morning shift was scheduled from 9 AM to 12 PM while the afternoon shift was scheduled from 1.30 PM to 4.30 PM.
Earlier on December 31, 2020, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) had however informed that the HS (XII) exams will in fact be conducted in the first week of March 2021. The syllabus for the exam was also announced to be reduced by 30% owing to the lack of proper classes and educational facilities throughout pandemic.
Nevertheless, Education Minister Sarma announced his decision despite the previous statements given by AHSEC authorities. HSLC & HS class exam results of Assam Board Exams 2021 would be declared July 7 & 30 respectively.
