Guwahati: The Border Security Force (BSF) conducted a special operation in the area of responsibility of Guwahati Frontier and apprehended two drug peddlers along with an Ashok Leyland truck containing 430 kg Ganja worth Rs.49,990/- near BOP Doradabri EX-140 BN BSF under district Coochbehar (WB).
Acting on a tip-off, BSF launched a Mobile Check Post for checking the vehicles in front of BOP Doradabri. Further, a Ashok Leyland Ltd open body truck bearing Reg.no.RJ18 GB 2960 reached in front of BOP Doradabri and was stopped by the MCP party. During the checking of the vehicle, the party found some suspicious items in packets loaded in the vehicle. When a packet among those was opened, a substance like Ganja was found inside the packet. In the meantime, both the driver and co-driver were apprehended by the BSF party and the truck containing 430 kg of Ganja and Indian currency of Rs.49,990/-was seized by BSF.
The apprehended person has been identified as Norang Lal (52) son of Radmalram, VPO- Dumra, Teh-Nawalgarh, Dist-Jhunjhunu(Rajasthan) and Sardar Singh(45) son of Ramkishan, Vill - Raghunathpura, PO- Gokulpura, Teh- Hindoli, Dist-Bundi (Rajasthan ).
As discovered, both driver and co-driver of the vehicle were courier only and were paid Rs 1,29,000/- (Rs.3000/--per packet) for the delivery. The consignment of Ganja was sent from Toofanganj (Mathabhanga) under district Coochbehar and was to hand over in Jaipur (Rajasthan).
Keeping in view the vulnerability of border, heightened activities of the smugglers and anti-national elements on the border, BSF troops are always alert towards the issues of trans-border crimes & illegal infiltration and are making all-out efforts to prevent the commission of such crimes.
