Dispur Shutdown: Assam Secretariat Employees Take to the Streets in Protest against CAB

Normalcy was affected further in the capital city of Assam as the employees of Assam Secretariat took to the streets moving out of their offices to join the protests opposing the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill.

As per reports, the employees left all official works and moved out join the protests in solidarity with the huge number of people protesting against the Bill in front of the Dispur Secretariat.

Tension has gripped Assam with protests turning more violent and additional forces being deployed to tackle the disturbed law and order situation amid continuing debate on the contentious legislation.

Home Minister Amit Shah tabled the controversial Bill in the Rajya Sabha for passage on Wednesday afternoon after being getting the nod in the Lok Sabha.

Sporadic incidents of violence have been reported following which police resorted to lathi-charge, shelled tear gas, police also blank fired to disperse the agitating masses. Water cannons were also used to disperse the angry mob.
