Giant Candidate of Silchar Sushmita Dev faces massive defeat, loses family baston !

Silchar: Indian National Congress star candidate and one of the strongest contenders from Barak Valley in Silchar Lok Sabha Constituency Sushmita Dev faces massive defeat from BJP's young gun Rajdeep Roy by a margin of 77,671 votes.

If we go by the history, Silchar has been one of the most high-profile seats of Assam as Mahila Congress President Sushmita Dev is the sitting MP of the region.

She has also earned high praise from Priyanka Gandhi during her election campaign in the region, Gandhi had also compared her as the Indira Gandhi of the Barak Valley.

However, BJP party was not willing to give up without a fight in this general election. BJP who had fielded young turk Rajdeep Roy, who is also the party spokesperson and a doctor by profession had sprung a huge surprise by defeating the giant candidate of Silchar Lok Sabha Seat Sushmita Dev.

PM Narendra Modi had earlier campaigned for Roy where he strongly raised the issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill. It may become a factor for a significant number of Bengali Hindu voters in the seat, most of who have migrated from erstwhile East Pakistan, current Bangladesh.
