Guwahati: We didn’t get any input about the blast beforehand. If some organization is planning an attack, it will come out eventually during the investigation, stating this the DGP of Assam Police Kuladhar Saikia on Saturday claimed the blast at the MG Road in Fancy Bazaar is an unfortunate and shameful incident.
DGP Saikia also stated that to counter further threat the security of the city will be beefed up during this festive season.
“We cannot comment anything on the matter at this point of time; however our investigation on the matter will reveal everything in the future. If necessary we might also need to change the design of our security forces to ensure better security arrangements for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations and the ODI Match between India vs. West Indies on October 21,” added DGP.
In the meantime, United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) had claimed the responsibility of the blast in Guwahati.
Speaking to the correspondent of The Sentinel, Paresh Baruah, ULFA (I), Commander-in-Chief said, “We the ULFA-I is claiming responsibility for the bomb blast in Guwahati.”
Baruah also mentioned that the blast was carried out in order to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 and updation exercise of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state. He also warned the organizations protesting against the updation of the NRC.
Also, one of the senior Police officials informed The Sentinel that they have collected the samples and have sent it to the forensic laboratory for further details. He also stated that a part of the samples has also been shared with the Indian Army.
Further, one of the injured victims told that he was coming to Fancy Bazaar on a city bus when he heard the sound of a big explosion.
“A small particle had hit me on the forehead and I realize that I was bleeding. I didn’t notice about my fellow passengers, but I managed myself and came to Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital in an Auto-Rickshaw for further treatment,” said the victim.
It may be mentioned that at least four persons have sustained minor injuries in the explosion and they will be released today from Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital after proper medication.
The injured persons have been identified as Kalpa Jyoti Talukdar, Sanku Kumar Das, Taifuddin Ahmed, Binita Das were rushed to the MMCH for treatment.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup(M), Virendra Mittal said, “We need to ensure a better a security arrangements in the future, Paramilitary force should also need to come forward and ensure for better security arrangements in the city. We have asked all the Puja Committees to remain cautious during this festive season.”
On being asked about the poor quality of CCTV cameras in the city, DC Mittal assured that the administration along with the Assam Police will ensure for a better CCTV surveillance in the city as soon as possible.
