GUWAHATI: Singer Zubeen Garg from Assam, who has been participating in anti-CAA agitations in the state, has vowed to not shave until CAA is scrapped, suggested media reports.

“My beard is changing to grey because I am growing old and have been engaged in this movement against the Act. But I have decided that I will only shave when the government scraps the CAA,” he said during a cultural function in Barpeta, suggested media reports

He urged people to stay united and said that sentiments at home cannot be bought with money.

Garg was earlier quoted as saying that he would rather “die” then allow Citizenship Amendment Act in Assam.

Lashing out at the BJP-led government both at the Centre and Assam during a protest at Chandmari in Guwahati, Zubeen Garg told the media that the government should understand the “pain” of the people of Assam.

“I will die but not allow the Citizenship Amendment Act. The government should feel the pain of people of Assam but they are killing children,” said singer Zubeen Garg.

CAA aims to protect religiously persecuted Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan by giving them Indian Citizenship. The cut-off date for those to be given citizenship in India has been fixed at, on or before 31st December 2014.
