Indian Army’s chopper makes emergency landing in Nalbari, Two choppers come to the rescue

Nalbari: An Indian Army’s chopper made an emergency landing at Koithalkuchi High School Playground on Thursday after the onboard pilot experienced a major technical snag.

As per reports, the IAF helicopter was flying from Missamari when the onboard pilot discovered some major difficulty in the chopper and thereby was forced to make an emergency landing. Meanwhile, all the crew members were reported safe and sound.

Later, two more IAF helicopters came to rescue the chopper.

It is to be noted that in a similar kind of incident on May 9, 2019, an Indian Army’s chopper made an emergency landing at a field in Assam's Nagaon.

As per reports, the IAF's Cheetah helicopter, which was flying from Dimapur in Nagaland towards Missamari, made the emergency landing after it developed a technical snag. All three crew members were reported safe.

It is to be noted that the army aviation pilots are drawn from other combat arms, including artillery officers, to form a composite third-dimensional force for an integrated battle. IAF operates & flies attack Helicopters like the Mil Mi-25/Mi-35 and HAL Rudra which are owned and administered by the Indian Air Force, but under the operational control of the Army & play a major role to support the armoured columns and infantry.

Apart from the attack role, helicopters like the HAL Chetak, HAL Cheetah and HAL Dhruv provide logistical support for the Indian Army in remote and inaccessible areas, especially in the Siachen Glacier.

Army Aviation Corps(AAC) also perform tasks like Combat search and rescue (CSAR), artillery lift, Combat transportation, logistics relief, military prisoner transportation and Medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) during the war and in the case of natural calamities.

The Army Aviation Corps is a component of the Indian Army, formed on 1 November 1986. The aviation arm is headed by a Director-General of the rank of Lt General at the Army HQ, New Delhi.
