Manipur University Agitation: To be Temporarily Suspended from Tomorrow
Published on

The Manipur University agitation is expected to come to a standstill finally. As the stakeholders have reached a mutual agreement on Thursday, 75-days long agitation is decided to be suspended for the time being.

The reason behind the agitation taking place in the university is that the students of the university are demanding the removal of Vice-Chancellor AP Pandey. They also seek the interference of an Independent Enquiry Committee to look into the allegations of administrative and financial lapses which are being made by the V-C.

It is only after a round of talks that had held between the stakeholders and the university students consecutively from August 14 that the decision of temporary suspension of the agitation has come to a conclusion. the same has been revealed through a copy of the memorandum made available to the media. The memorandum was signed between the Joint Secretary GC Hosur of the Union HRD Ministry, Commissioner (Higher and Technical Education) Government of Manipur and the leaders of the agitating bodies.

The memorandum states that Prof AP Pandey shall be on leave “during the period of enquiry and until follow up action was taken on the inquiry report by the competent authority."

Looking back at the day when it all started, it was on May 30 when the agitation had commenced spearheaded by the University Community functioning under the aegis of Manipur University Students Union, Manipur University Teachers Association and Manipur University Staffs’ Association.

The movement, although was commenced as a demand for changes in the atmosphere, but have had enough negative impact on its students as the classroom environment has been quite polluted and hampered due to the agitation. What is more, the exam results of the final year college students too have been stopped as an aftereffect of the agitation.
