Road Accident near Khuwang Gemon Bridge in Moran, 16 injured

Moran: Major Road Accident took place near Khuwang Gemon Bridge in Moran on Friday. As per reports, the driver of the public bus bearing registration number AS 20/ 1509 allegedly tried to overtake a truck when lost control of the vehicle and flipped on its side, leaving 16 passengers injured on the spot.

All the passengers were immediately shifted to Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh.

The bus was reportedly coming from Margherita and was heading towards Bokakhat in Golaghat District.

It is to be noted that recently State Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary informed that the total counts of road accidents in Assam have been reduced to 25.15 percent and on the other hand, the number of deaths has also come down to 2.74 percent in the past one year.

The report was informed to the media recently during a meeting of the State Road Safety Council, under the chairmanship of State Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on July 8, 2019.

Also, in the discussion, the council was reviewed that the total number of accidents and fatalities from April to May 2018 were 1830 and 548, which have come down to 1370 ( - 25.15%) and 533 ( - 2.74%) from April – May 2019 respectively.

It may also be mentioned that the road accident data of 2018 show that there were around 3963 road accidents (48.05%), 3389 injuries (45.95%) and 1541 fatalities (51.95%) occurred in the National Highways. To which the State Transport Minister directed the officials of NHAI and NHIDCL to make rumble strips in the identified Black Spots as well at the junctions of State Highways and National Highways in the state in order to reduce the fatality figures.

The minister further stated that all the district hospitals and sub-divisional hospitals in the region will be designated as Trauma Care Centre and the doctors and paramedic staff will be trained through AIIMS, New Delhi to cater to the emergency services.
