Young Athlete Rescued from Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Dies

Guwahati: Guwahati: An 18-year-old athlete from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, who had been living in Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium’s hostel, was rescued in a poor state of health on Tuesday, but later succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

Notably, the athlete was staying in a hotel of the stadium and was rescued at a state of hanging himself in his room on Tuesday. As per police reports, the Police Control Room (PCR) received a call on Tuesday at 6.30 p.m. in which information of a man to have hanged himself inside his hostel room in the stadium was given. Police rushed to the spot immediately after the call and rescued the athlete and later admitted him at the Safdarjung Hospital in a critical condition. But the athlete could not recover and succumbed to his serious injuries on Wednesday morning.

The athlete was a sprinter and the family members are being informed by the police. As reported by an official of Sports Authority of India (SAI), the athlete had an argument with his father the previous morning. Further investigations are processed by the police.
