NEW DELHI: On Wedmesday, ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal joined BJP.

BJP tweeted through its official Twitter account, "Badminton player @NSaina joins BJP in the presence of BJP National General Secretary Shri @ArunSinghbjp."

Last year, displaying a superior performance Saina Nehwal beat PV Sindhu 21-18, 21-15 to win her fourth women singles title at the Yonex-Sunrise 83rd Senior National Badminton Championships.

The showdown between Saina and Sindhu, a repeat of their enthralling final from the previous edition, was undoubtedly the cynosure of all eyes at the packed stadium in Guwahati.

Last year she was crowned champion of the Indonesia Masters 2019 after her opponent Carolina Marin pulled out of the summit clash due to an injury.

However this year, India had a disappointing opening day at the Thailand Masters as all four shuttlers participating from the country bowed out of the competition after facing defeats in their respective first-round matches.

In women’s singles, Saina also failed to impress yet again as she lost 13-21, 21-17, 15-21 to Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt in 47 minutes.

Last year, Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir joined the BJP in the presence of Union Ministers Arun Jaitley and Ravi Shankar Prasad ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

On the occasion, Gambhir, 37, thanked the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) for giving him an opportunity to serve the country.

“I am joining this party (BJP) after getting influenced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. I am honoured to get the opportunity. I will work to take this country forward and make it a better place to live in,” Gambhir had said after joining the party.
