Guwahati: Assam boxer Lovlina Borgohain on Friday beat fellow boxer Anjali Sharma in the ongoing women's boxing trials for Olympic Qualifiers in New Delhi.
Following the match, the Boxing Federation of India took to Twitter and informed, "@LovlinaBorgohai beats Anjali in a unanimous decision in 69kg category."
In August this year, Golaghat girl Boragohain clinched gold at the Magomed Salam Umakhanov Memorial International boxing tournament in 69 kg category at Kaspiysk, Russia.
On the other hand, Six-time World champion MC Mary Kom will take on pugilist Nikhat Zareen in the final of the Olympic Boxing Trials. The Olympic qualifiers will be held in China in February next year.
Zareen, who had previously won a gold medal at Strandja Memorial tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria advanced to the 51 kg category after defeating Jyoti Gulia.
She had earlier courted controversy when she demanded a fair Olympic selection trial against the reigning champion Mary Kom.
In an earlier interview with The Sentinel, Nikhat, while she was in Guwahati, had said, “I believe in myself. I am ready to take Mary on the ring and will try my best to win the bout.”
