Guwahati: Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Spl. Director-General of Police (Border) has been appointed as the in-charge Director-General of Police (DGP) of Assam in addition to existing duties till posting of a regular substitute vice Kuladhar Saikia who will retire on November 30, 2019.
According to reports, the state government has earlier sent names of five DGP rank officials to the UPSC for the post of DGP, Assam. They were NK Sinha, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, KB Singh Deu, BK Mishra and Mukesh Agarwal.
The appointment has been made in accordance with the Supreme Court guidelines that one should hold the post of DGP for at least 2 years.
