Cattle laden truck seized in Kokrajhar’s Gossaigaon, 16 cattle rescued, 10 apprehended

Kokrajhar: In continuation of strict legal action against cattle smuggling and other illegal activities, Kokrajhar Police in the intervening night of 5th and 6th September 2019 based on reliable information, apprehended one Truck bearing registration AS 01 GC 3837 carrying cattle illegally from West Bengal.

As per police report, the truck was apprehended in Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar district. The truck with 16 nos of cattle was about to be smuggled to Bangladesh via Meghalaya and Assam.

Along with the truck, one Innova car bearing registration number AS 01 AK 7363 with Arun Lyngdoh and Munna Saikia alias Ikram Hussain, President and General Secretary of All India Livestock Trader and Transporter Association, were also taken into custody as they were escorting the illegal cattle truck coming from West Bengal side.

Also, an Alto car bearing registration number WB 70L 8539 was also apprehended. Altogether, ten persons were apprehended in connection with the crime.

A case was also registered in connection to the incident at Gossaigaon PS Case No 388/2019 under section 120(B)/353/420/506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) R/W sec 11(1)(a)(d)(e)(h) of PCA Act, 1960 and R/W sec 192(A)/194/199 MV Act.

It is noteworthy that inter-state and international criminal gangs have been trying to smuggle cattle from various parts of the country to Bangladesh through Assam and Meghalaya.

In the relative's effort of the State Government, Kokrajhar Police have been taken strict legal actions against such illegal activities which are as follows:
