First freight train with 50-wagons crossed Bogibeel Bridge in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: After the maiden trial journey from Dhamalgaon Railway station (Dibrugarh) to Tangani Rail station (Dhemaji) at Bogibeel Bridge on October 22, the Northeast Frontier Railways on Sunday created another milestone at India's longest road-cum-rail bridge by introducing the first freight train at the stretch of 4.94 Kilometres Bridge.

Sharing the moment, Union Minister of Railways, Pijush Goyal on his twitter account shared a video content on December 2.

He further stated that India's longest road-cum-rail bridge would now be able to connect Assam with Arunachal Pradesh opening the doors to enhanced connectivity in the North-East.

Speaking to The Sentinel Digital, Northeast Frontier Railways, PRO, Nipen Bhattacharya said, “Its a red-letter day for the NFR family, we have successfully conducted the trail test yesterday. For the first time, a 50-wagon train successfully ran from Rangapara North Junction to New Tinsukia Junction via Bogibeel Bridge. The train left for Tinsukia from Rangapara at around 7.45 am and reached the final destination by 3.05 p.m in the evening."

Bhattacharya also confirmed that the Union Railway Ministry will soon announce the final the inauguration day of the Bogibeel Bridge which will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India.

“I am sure the day will be big as each and every people of Northeast are waiting for this particular moment. This bridge would bring socio-economic developments to the region. Moreover, it will shorten the distance of route between North Assam and South Assam. The transportation to states like Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur would be more convenient,” Bhattacharya adds.
