Guwahati: National Investigation Agency (NIA) searched the residence of peasant leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi in Guwahati.
The team arrived at his residence in Nizarapar of Chandmari around 7 am. During the raid, the search team seized files containing documents relating to National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd (NHPC), the same company involved in the construction of Subansiri hydroelectric power project that KMSS leader, Gogoi has been opposing.
His identity card and other bank documents were also seized during the raid.
Gogoi, who was leading the anti CAA agitation in upper Assam. He was arrested by the Assam Police on December 12 from Jorhat and later handed over to the National Investigation Agency.
Amid tight security, the NIA had produced Akhil Gogoi before the special court which sent him to the 10-day NIA custody.
Meanwhile, the court directed the NIA to ensure regular medical checkups and allow his family members and lawyers to meet him.
Lawyer Shantanu Borthakur had said that the NIA had sought 20-day custody but the court granted the 10-day custody.
Gogoi was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful (Activities) Prevention Act.
He was flown back to Guwahati last night. He is expected to appear before the NIA court soon.
