Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked to prove Indian citizenship in RTI application
NEW DELHI: Joshy Kalluveettil from Kerala filed a Right to Information application seeking documents that can prove Prime Minister Modi's Indian Citizenship.
Kalluveettil filed the application with the public information officer of Chalakkudy municipality on January 13.
Kalluveettil told media that the application reflects concerns of people who will have to prove their citizenship.
"As the possession of a passport or Aadhar card is not sufficient to prove citizenship, people are fearful. I am keen to know whether the prime minister possesses a unique document that makes him an Indian citizen,” Joshy told media.
Kalluveettil said that those born before 1970 may not have birth certificates and might find it difficult to prove their citizenship, she added.
NRC is an exercise to ensure who are the legitimate citizens of the country.
CAA aims to protect religiously persecuted Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan by giving them Indian Citizenship. The cut-off date for those to be given citizenship in India has been fixed at, on or before 31st December 2014.
