Biswanath Chariali: A retired Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel has lamented as his name was left out of the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) list though the names of all his family members found place in the list.

Flight Lieutenant (Honorary) Chabindra Sarma, son of freedom fighter Tez Prasad Sharma, from Boubazar, Biswanath Chariali town in Biswanath district could not make it to the NRC. He used the same legacy data which his parents and children registered with. Sarma retired on February 28 last year after 36 years of service in the IAF and he was given the honorary rank of Flying Officer on August 15, 2017. His name was missing from the part publication of draft NRC that was published on December 31, 2017 and also from the complete draft that was published on July 30, 2018 although he underwent three NRC hearings. Sharma informed that he had submitted his father’s legacy data of 1951, his matriculation certificate, Aadhaar card, the service Identity card and everything required to establish his citizenship. When he was rejected in the first draft list, NRC authorities told him that his linkage was not established.

However, the retired Junior Commissioned Officer said that he did not have any complaint against anyone or the system and probably he would take legal assistance for proving his citizenship. On the other hand, the IAF personnel is happy that his wife and children could make it to the list. At present, his daughter is working with Infosys in Mysore while his son works in a luxury hotel in Goa. Prior to his retirement, Sharma served across India, with postings in Assam, West Bengal, Delhi, Srinagar, Jammu and Rajasthan.
