Guwahati: After several meetings and discussions, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday finally fielded sitting Nagaon MLA Rupak Sarmah as MP candidate from Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in place of sitting MP Rajen Gohain.

It is to be mentioned that the sitting MP, Rajen Gohain, has been fighting rape accusations in the Court, therefore he had decided not to contest the upcoming general elections this time. Moreover, he has represented the Nagaon constituency in Assam since 1999.

Also, in the wee hours of Saturday, BJP had released their third list where the party high command has fielded Assam Labour and Employment (Independent) Minister Pallab Lochan Das as the new candidate for Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency.
