Kokrajhar: In a major breakthrough, the Indian Army supported by Assam Police, while conducting operations in Ripu Reserve Forest of Kokrajhar district, Assam, has successfully apprehended six hardcore NDFB(S) Militants.
On the intervening night of 30 Sep-01 Oct, the militants, trained in Myanmar, attempted to escape taking advantage of the twilight and thick foliage. However, the Army troops were alert with prior information and laid multiple ambushes in the area of Raimana near Akshaiguri. Their prompt and swift action ensured that all the militants were apprehended in the operation. The Army, while conducting this particular operation, exercised extreme restraint and ensured no harm to the militants.
Further interrogation leads to the discovery of a temporary campsite close to the spot of apprehension. A thorough search of the camp by the troops helped in the recovery of one M16 Assault Rifle, six 7.65 mm pistols, twelve magazines, ammunition, medicines, rations, along with several other warlike and administrative stores. These six militants belong to the handful of NDFB(S) cadres who continue to be active in the forested areas of BTAD and are evading the Security Forces. The cadres have been identified and belong to Kokrajhar & Chirang districts of Assam. The apprehension of this group is a major setback to NDFB(S) activities in Kokrajhar district.
The Security Forces will continue to exert pressure through sustained operations until all militants of NDFB (S) are neutralized. Due to tough living conditions, sustained the pressure of Security Forces and lack of local support, most of the cadres are disillusioned and demoralized. It accordingly exhorts remaining cadres to shun the path of violence and return to the mainstream.
