Three fake journalists arrested at Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR, May 27: Laluk Police of Lakhimpur district on Monday arrested three youths who demanded Rs. 1,50,000 from a doctor. They were identified as Dipak Gohain of Phukhuriporia under Laluk Police Station, Manas Jyoti Sarmah of Gharmora under North Lakhimpur PS and Imazuddin Ahmed of North Lakhimpur town. These three youths demanded money from Dr. Mazibur Rahman on May 25. They introduced themselves as journalists and complained that there was discrepancy in the pharmacy where the doctor did medical practice. Further, they threatened him that they would publish the alleged misdeeds of the doctor unless he paid the demanded money.

Later the doctor filed a complaint in this regard at Laluk PS. A team of police led by Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, OC of Laluk PS, was potent enough to arrest Dipak Gohain from Phukuriporia and the two others from Laluk. A case vide No. 150/18/us384/506/34 of Indian Penal Code was registered at the police station concerned against them. The fake journalists confessed their crime in front of the police who seized a car from them along with some documents. The car was owned by Dipak Gohain and logo of a news agency named Indian Prime News was displayed on it. Police also seized an identity card from Manash Jyoti Sarmah as CBI officer. The three were unable to produce adequate documents to prove themselves as journalists. The three were sent to Lakhimpur Jail.
