Guwahati: Kolkata-Amritsar Akal Takth Express ran over three gangmen who were working on the tracks at around 12 pm on Monday. The incident took place between Sanda and Umartali stations in Uttar Pradesh.

A Northern Railways official states, “Three gangmen, while drilling on the rails without any prior block, were reportedly run over by Kolkata-Amritsar Akal Takth Express between Sandila and Umartali stations at noon today.”

Immediately after being informed about the accident, senior officials have rushed to the spot. Deepak Kumar, the northern railway spokesperson, says that a probe has been ordered to find out the reason behind the incident. As this incident points at the lack of dutifulness and responsibility of the railway department, a proper investigation needs to be initiated. Generally, when there is any maintenance or a repair is carried out on a particular railway track, it is being informed to the concerned zone so that no train gets to come in that way.
