SAN FRANCISCO: One of the biggest players in the Tech and Ecom sector of the world has also started to hand over pink slips to its employees as mentioned in a memo from the organisation on Wednesday.

"After a deep set of reviews, we recently decided to consolidate some teams and programs. One of the consequences of these decisions is that some roles will no longer be required. It pains me to have to deliver this news as we know we will lose talented Amazonians from the Devices & Services org as a result," mentioned Dave Limp, head of the hardware division of Amazon.

Reports mentioned him saying that the company has notified the employees who have been affected. He also mentioned that the company will work with the individuals and assist them to find new roles. Other reports have also mentioned that managers have been issuing memos to employees asking them to find different roles in the organisation within the coming months or be ready for layoffs.

Several US bases agencies reported that the brand aims to strike off about 10000 names from the company's payrolls. Mentioning it to be the largest layoff in the history of the brand, these people are said to be mainly from the corporate and technology roles of the company. The number is a speculated one as the company has not issued any statement regarding the same. But it makes up about 3% of the entire workforce of the brand.

"As part of our annual operating planning review process, we always look at each of our businesses and what we believe we should change. As we've gone through this, given the current macro-economic environment, some teams are making adjustments, which in some cases means certain roles are no longer necessary. We don't take these decisions lightly, and we are working to support any employees who may be affected," mentioned Kelly Nantel in an interview with a tech magazine. He is the official spokesperson for Amazon.

The brand has also started a voluntary separation programme for its Indian employees. Reports say that the package would include a severance payment equivalent to about 22 weeks' worth of base pay. It will also include a one-week base salary for every six months of service. The package will also include medical insurance coverage for six months and a notice period or pay in lieu, as per their employment contract terms.
